Color Pop.

One look at the runways tells you that color will be a major trend this fall/winter. Fashion houses like Prabal Gurung, Moschino, Oscar De La Renta, and Marni, all showcase bold, color blocked ensembles that will definitely effect other designers down the totem pole. I’ve already begun searching for bright statement pieces to replace my muted turtlenecks and dull outerwear before temperatures plummet.
Personally, I’m a fan of this trend because winter is already dreary enough. Why mirror barren trees and grey skies with neutral clothing when you could invigorate your surroundings with pops of color?

With this in mind, I haven’t let fall stop me from wearing characteristically “summer” palettes. In this ensemble, I paired Milly’s Rainbow Strip Knit Top with C/MEO Collective’s black scalloped shorts (both provided by Rent The Runway). To accessorize, I wore neutral fringed sandals by Steve Madden and bold earrings provided by Atlanta jeweler, Etc East. This outfit is a great example of keeping color while transitioning from summer to fall.
In my opinion, the key to successfully wearing color during cooler months is refraining from overstimulation. It’s undeniable that my top is eye catching, but because it’s paired with a neutralbottom, the outfit isn’t overwhelming.
Once fall is in full swing, an eye-catching sweater could be paired with solid dark jeans, or a bold coat with a plain top. Additionally, abstract and tone-on-tone patterns will evoke more of a sophisticated presence rather than stereotypical summer-themed prints that reflect the energy of the season.
